Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about usage and safety.
No, never. FCP Cleaner does not touch your "Original Media" folders. Only generated files are deleted (Temp Files, Render Files, Proxies), which Final Cut Pro can regenerate at any time.
Don't worry. Final Cut Pro is designed to automatically regenerate render files and temp files as soon as they are missing and needed. If you open an old project where you deleted temp files, Final Cut Pro simply re-renders the timeline. Your edits, effects, and work remain 100% intact. Regardless of this, keeping a current backup is generally always recommended.
Yes, we highly recommend it. When Final Cut Pro is open, it actively accesses the databases. FCP Cleaner automatically checks if Final Cut Pro is running and shows you a warning before you start the deletion process to clean your files.
Yes! With Expert Mode (Pro feature), you can select entire drives. FCP Cleaner searches them recursively for libraries and temp files, no matter how deep they are hidden in subfolders. In standard view, you select specific individual folders, which is ideal for quick checks before you delete anything.
With the free demo, you can scan without limits. You see exactly which libraries take up how much space through temp files and how much you could save by cleaning. To actually delete the files, you need a license key. This way, you can see if it's worth it for you before buying.
Yes, if you want. FCP Cleaner lists these under the category "Data" or "Analysis". Optical Flow analyses in particular can become huge. If you delete these, the clips simply need to be briefly re-analyzed in Final Cut Pro when needed.
FCP Cleaner is a one-time purchase (Lifetime License) for the current major version. No subscription, no hidden costs. You buy it once and use it as long as you want to keep your Mac clean.
A license is valid for one Mac. However, you remain flexible: You can deactivate the license on a device at any time to activate it again on a new Mac later.
FCP Cleaner is a native macOS app, developed in Swift. Requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or newer. The app runs efficiently on Apple Silicon (M1 to M5) as well as on Intel Macs. The current Final Cut Pro 12 is also supported.
